They say the first bite is with the eye in which case these little delights must be a sweet from start to finish! Not strictly burrito related but I loved these little Mexican themed treats. A perfect party snack if you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo or good if you just want a little something extra after your burrito.
The Burrito Battle of Clerkenwell Road!
Last week I was working in an unfamiliar part of town so I did what any dedicated burritologist would do: tested new burritos! As you are likely aware, burritos originated as street food so what better place to test them than street markets. The area I was in was directly between two street markets: Exmouth Market and Leather Lane. These are the locations for Freebird Burritos and Daddy Donkey respectively but who had the superior burrito? Let the burrito battle commence! Continue reading
Men in white coats
This is not a burrito review. In fact it’s so far removed from a burrito that you could be forgiven for stopping reading now. Please don’t. I have to admit that the connection is spurious but it was so delicious and so much fun that I wanted to share today’s culinary adventure with you all. Continue reading
Ambassador, you are really spoiling us!
2 New Burrito Experiences in ONE DAY (today!)
Today sees the launch of two new burrito experiences. Both have been the subject of varying degrees of quibble. Continue reading
Mexican Food Made Simple
Last night was the first episode of the new series featuring Thomasina Miers. I was out on Tuesday so caught up with this programme the next day, thanks to the wonders of the interwebs. I enjoyed it, and it made me want to go back to Mexico, but I still maintain that Mexican pork scratchings are horrible. Even if they are the size of my car. They suck all the fun out their scratchings – I much prefer the salty fatty (hairy) ones you get over here. Continue reading

I received an email yesterday from the Poet. Continue reading
all quiet on the burrito front
Apologies for the lack of posts recently. We’ve not forgotten you!
I see AA Gill, with his usual tact and diplomacy, is dismissive of food bloggers so I just wanted to say that we’ve never received a burrito freebie. More’s the pity!
Also, not burrito related but I’m really chuffed to have found a place in East London that sells the fantastic day of the dead glitter boxes that I got for everybody when I went to Oaxaca. I love these boxes and will take photographs of mine so you can see what I mean. It’s fantastic that you can get them in London now, there’s no way that I’m going to be able to afford another trip to Mexico for a while!
Frida Kahlo talk at the National Gallery
Not remotely related to burritos but it’s Mexican so I’m chucking it in here.
I have absolutely NO idea if it’ll be any good but for the price of a burrito it might be worth checking it out on 17th June. After they’ve finished you could go to Mas Burritos, Wahaca or Benito’s Hat! And then settle down to Frida (starring Selma Hayek) on DVD.

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Burrito Street …
FLYING BURRITOS Middlesex St E1
On the way home from a very satisfying and lovely meal at The Poet last Tuesday, Dr Chimpington and I spotted Flying Burritos in the same street! It was already on my list of places to try and I’ve been following them on Twitter but I’d not really checked out their location before so it was nice being able to see where it was. Even nicer that it was on a street that already had good burrito memories. Continue reading
GET THERE EARLY
Don’t forget that burritos are popular. So, unless you like queuing (or missing meetings), get there early.
Learn from the experience of my colleague who had to dash back for an interview and is now eating cold tacos and is NOT happy. He got to Picante at 12:15. THAT IS NOT EARLY ENOUGH FOLKS.
